The 7 Best Beaches Along 30A You Have to See to Believe

Salty Roads 7 min read July 25, 2026

Sugar-white sand, turquoise water, and barely a crowd in sight — here's where to plant your umbrella on Scenic 30A.

Scenic Highway 30A in the Florida Panhandle is a 24-mile stretch of coastal perfection — pastel beach towns, towering dunes, and water so clear it doesn't look real. There's no single "main beach" here; the magic is hopping between the little towns that line the road. Here are seven stops you can't miss, with parking tips and what makes each one special.

1. Grayton Beach

Grayton Beach State Park is the quiet superstar of 30A — wide sugar-white sand, rare coastal dune lakes you can paddle, and a laid-back, barefoot crowd. Park early: the state park lot fills by mid-morning in summer ($5 entry). Hike the Western Lake trail loop, then walk the empty beach to the east for the best solitude.

2. Seaside

The pastel-cottage village that launched a thousand Pinterest boards — famous for The Truman Show. Grab coffee at Modica Market, browse the row of Airstream food trucks in the square, and walk the pedestrian path straight to a wide, gorgeous public beach. Free parking in the town center; it's busy but worth it.

3. Alys Beach

White-washed, Bermuda-inspired Alys Beach feels like a Mediterranean escape dropped on the Gulf. Calmer than it looks, beautifully maintained, and the architecture alone is worth a stroll. Park along Scenic 30A and walk the white masonry streets to the beach access.

4. Rosemary Beach

Cobblestone streets, a picture-perfect town square, and one of the most walkable beaches on 30A. Rent a bike — it's the local way to get around, and the Timpoochee Trail connects every town. Don't miss the farmer's market on Sundays (in season).

5. WaterColor

Sand-bottom pools, trails through the pines, and a beach that stays uncrowded even in July. WaterColor is the low-key luxury stop — rent a kayak on Western Lake or just claim a quiet stretch of sand and a good book.

6. Blue Mountain Beach

The "highest point on the Gulf Coast" (a generous 65 feet) — but you're really here for the wide-open shoreline, easy parking, and the Blue Mountain Creamery for a post-beach cone. It's the least touristy of the central 30A towns.

7. Dune Allen

Skip the crowds at the quiet eastern end of 30A. Dune Allen feels like old Florida: rolling dunes, sea oats, and not much else. Topsail Hill Preserve State Park nearby has three miles of untouched beach and hike-in access — the closest you'll get to wild Gulf sand.

What to pack

A beach chair, a wide-brim hat, reef-safe sunscreen (SPF 50+), plenty of water, and a Salty Roads pint glass for the sunset cocktail back at your rental. A bike lock is essential if you rent wheels.

Getting there & around

Fly into Panama City Beach (ECP) or Destin (VPS) — both about 40 minutes from the heart of 30A. Once you're there, a bike is the best way to town-hop; the car mostly stays parked.

Pro tip

Go in September or October — the water is bathtub-warm, the crowds are gone, and rental rates drop by nearly half. Avoid spring break weeks if you want peace.
